Country Voices by
Stewart Howson,
nominated for the Northern Electric Awards.
A feast of stories from the
turn of the century to the First World War, some
hilarious, some tragic, breathing life into the words,
songs and stories of a Northumbrian farming family, part
of the last generation to work by hand, horse and steam,
on the land.
“A vigorously comic dip
into a grandparental world of farm workers. The struggle
for survival is never far away and neither is the wit
that made it bearable”. The Guardian.

These
Things Do Happen by Stewart Howson
An honest, affectionate and
often hilarious close up of farming life in
Northumberland in the 1930s and 1940s, narrated by a
tractor!
Visually exciting, full of energy and action, this prize
winning play is rich with period flavour, farming
anecdotes, pathos and above all laughs. 'Brimful of wit,
yet poignant too - lovingly written.' The Stage.
